A Poem a Day Keeps the Zoloft Away

My own personal poetry project that I wish to share with the world. The objective is to create one piece a day. I decided to number each instead of date them. The concept is to promote art as therapy, force myself to create everyday regardless of how I feel.

Jeremiah

looked at Paul

on his wedding day

and asked

“Brother, what does it all

mean?”

Paul looked

at the man, who

in every way he admired,

and spoke simply,

what was not necessarily the truth,

but what was needed to be said,

“You’re gonna haul it all,

her sorrows,

the children’s sorrows,

the welfare of em’ all,

and you’re gonna do it

with a smile.

Cause you can,

and cause it is unspoken.

This is the Gospel of our folk.”

Jeremiah couldn’t ever remember it verbatim,

but he never forgot it.
